Bismuth Octoate

Bismuth Octoate is a highly effective organic Bismuth catalyst for the production of polyurethane synthetic leather pastes, coatings, adhesives, sealants, runway glues, elastomers and foams. It can also be added as a heat stabilizer to PVC. In the product, the heat stability is improved. Isooctanoic acid and powdered Bismuth oxide are reacted under the action of a catalyst to form bismuth octoate.

Bismuth Octoate can be used as a paint drier, a lubricant additive and a polyurethane room temperature catalyst.

The Bismuth compound has better hydrolysis stability than the tin compound and lowers the selectivity of reaction with water. In the aqueous PU dispersion, the side reaction of water and NCO is reduced, and the humidity can be high in harsh weather conditions, especially in air. The drying properties of the coating are improved under severe conditions, and the final product is better in mechanical properties; in a one-component polyurethane system, the deblocking effect is promoted rather than promoting the reaction of NCO with water. However, in some systems the catalytic activity is low. The synergistic effect of the combination of bismuth and zinc makes the formulation and production more flexible. It can be used alone or in combination with an amine or other organometallic compound.
